Roofs – not the most suitable place for plants: they are highly susceptible to heat, cold, wind and drought, plus they can not withstand a lot of weight, so the plants produce only a few centimeters of the soil. So typically, green roofs use plants found in deserts, on rocks and in the other they are not very hospitable places. Fortunately, among them we can find truly stunning views: beautiful, strange, and sometimes even edible or just useful.
As it became known BTN.kiev.ua plants for green roofs can be divided into four categories: succulents, grasses, wild flowers and aromatic herbs.
Succulents or fleshy, succulent plants, green roofs. If on the roof you can place the layer of soil no thicker than 10 cm, then such plants should make up the bulk. Succulents can live almost without water and soil. They come in various colors, so the palette is quite large.
King green roofs can be considered to be stonecrop. Hundreds of species of plants fill in the cracks in the rocks and gorges around the world. And that’s stonecrop became the first plant that used on the green roof.
Young called the Ajuga, chicken with Chicks (adults roses grow thumbnails), Latin for “forever young” (sempervivum). Like stonecrop, houseleek is characterized by a short stature and a variety of colors.

A green grass roof is not considered as such from a Botanical point of view, the more accurate their name – herbaceous plants. As succulents, they can cover a large area. Many of them are self-pollinating, so a roof garden can become simulatenously landscape.
Thrift is a seaside wavy tuft of grass. In natural conditions it grows on dunes and cliffs by the ocean (hence the “coastal” in the title), so it is well suited to the conditions on the roof, especially homes on the water. Unlike the rest of the grass, summer thrift topped with pink or purple flowers.
Black sedge is often grown on the roofs, because it does not need much soil compared to other herbs or herbaceous plants.
Wildflowers are planted not in such quantities as succulents and herbs, as they require more soil. So they can be put in different places, creating small mounds of flowers in the middle of the “green sea”.
